Narrogin Turns Up The Heat

Round 11 of the TKL Contractors Pty Ltd Championship Series touched down at Narrogin Speedway Club with warm weather, packed fences and a pit area buzzing with anticipation. Crews were dialed in early, fine tuning setups as fans gathered along the fence, ready for a night that promised close racing and championship-shaping moments.

Hit WA Heat 1 set the tone immediately. Ken Melvin came out swinging, finding pace early and controlling the race from the front. Behind him, Travis Gould pushed hard, exploring different lines to close the gap, while Rob Trenaman delivered a composed run to secure third. It was an opening heat filled with intent, and Melvin set the bar high for the rest of the program.

Hydraulink Bunbury Heat 2 mixed things up. This time, Steve Barrow took command, charging away early and maintaining control through consistent, well timed laps. Melvin backed up his Heat 1 win with another podium in second, demonstrating impressive early night form. Braeden Aylmore settled into third, showcasing smooth and calculated racing.

Hit WA Heat 3 delivered yet another shuffle. Greg Joss launched sharply and never looked back, locking in a convincing win with tidy, well managed pace. Gould returned to the podium with a strong second, while Garry Walker put together a solid drive to take third.

With the heats complete, Ken Melvin emerged as the City Discount Tyres Auto Service Centre Margaret River Highest Qualifier. But the series’ format threw its signature twist, a top 4 invert, reshuffling the front row for the feature. Instead of starting from pole, Melvin was moved back to position 4, placing Heat 3 winner Greg Joss on pole and Heat 2 winner Steve Barrow alongside him. Braeden Aylmore lined up in third, with Melvin completing the second row.

When the Busselton Bitumen & Civil 20 lap A-Main rolled out, the tension around the venue tightened. The green dropped and Joss and Barrow hammered into the first corner, fighting hard to set the early tone. Behind them, Melvin and Aylmore immediately engaged in a fierce contest as the field settled in.

Melvin’s charge began within the opening laps. From P4, he picked off positions with precision, showing the speed and patience needed to navigate tight early traffic. Once he found open track, he surged into the lead and managed the race with confidence, pacing the field through the mid race laps before stretching a margin that no one could overcome.

The standout drive of the night came from Ben Boyd. Starting farther back, Boyd carved his way forward with determination and clean race craft, making multiple well timed passes to move into second place by the chequered. His impressive +5 performance earned him the CMS Hard Charger award.

Barrow secured third, backing up his heat win with another strong result. The field behind fought tightly through all 20 laps, producing quality racing and plenty of movement through the midfield.

It was a feature that summed up the night perfectly, pace, strategy, hard charges and a leaderboard that shifted from start to finish. Melvin completed the sweep with a dominant win, Boyd starred as the Hard Charger, and a deep field kept the pressure alive all night long.

All eyes now shift to the Living Legend 70 at Collie Speedway on March 21st, where the momentum from Narrogin will collide with one of the most anticipated events on the calendar. With multiple riders showing feature winning speed and confidence rising across the series, Collie is shaping up to be a massive night for the championship.
